Politicians' Positions on the Waste-to-Energy Incinerator
Maryland State Senator Alex Mooney
Opposed to the waste-to-energy incinerator
Mooney introduced SB 1009, co-sponsored by Brian Frosh, to prevent the placement of the now-approved incinerator on the McKinney site next to the Monocacy Battlefield. Mooney then introduced a second bill (SB 1056 [PDF]), which would require new incinerators to be built on land zoned for heavy industrial use and prohibits them within three miles of the property boundary of a house, apartment building, church, park or hospital. Unfortunately, neither bill passed.
Mooney has participated in anti-incinerator activities and has indicated he is committed to helping county residents fight the incinerator.
